Adult Counselling
A safe, confidential place to talk, understand what you are experiencing and find a way forward.
How can counselling help?
Psychodynamic counselling looks at our early experiences and how these influence the way we relate to others in the present. Central to this approach is the idea that, besides the thoughts and feelings we know about consciously, there are others that have been “pushed out of sight”.
Psychodynamic counselling can help us become more aware of these repressed thoughts and feelings and how they might be adversely affecting our lives. By becoming more aware of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, we can begin to see how we can change these and lead more fulfilling lives.
Our counsellors
Our team includes qualified counsellors accredited or registered with the British Psychoanalytical Council (BPC) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), as well as counsellors currently undertaking advanced clinical training accredited by the BPC and BACP.
All of our counsellors undergo a rigorous selection process and receive regular clinical supervision to ensure they practise safely and effectively.

Tell us a little about yourself and your availability. Once submitted, you will be guided through the secure £55 initial appointment payment and our counselling team will contact you.
Sign Up TodayThe form is confidential and normally takes around 10 minutes to complete. If the fee is not affordable, email office@wessexcp.co.uk.
What happens next?
Once you have completed the Client Information Form, we will contact you to arrange an initial appointment lasting up to 50 minutes.
This is an opportunity to ask questions and decide with the counsellor whether the counselling we offer is right for you.
If continuing counselling is right for you, a counsellor will contact you to arrange ongoing sessions. These take place on the same day and at the same time each week and last for 50 minutes.
What happens after the initial appointment?
Using the information discussed at your initial appointment, we will allocate a counsellor to work with you if psychodynamic counselling is appropriate.
If our type of counselling is not suitable, we will try to direct you to other sources of help.
When a counsellor is available, they will contact you using your preferred method to arrange your first session. This usually takes four to six weeks, but may take longer if you have limited availability or depending on availability at your preferred venue.
Usual allocation time: approximately 4–6 weeks.
How much do I pay?
Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy (WCP) is a registered charity and non-profit organisation. We rely on fees from those who use our services to contribute towards the cost of providing counselling.
The standard fee for ongoing counselling is £55 per session. However, we aim to provide affordable counselling. If you cannot pay the standard fee, we may be able to agree a reduced amount based on your individual circumstances.
It can cost WCP £35 to provide a counselling session. Please consider what you can afford; this can be discussed at your initial appointment.
If the £55 initial appointment fee is not affordable, please email office@wessexcp.co.uk before completing payment.
How often are my sessions?
You will be offered regular, once-a-week sessions. Each session will be on the same day of the week and at the same time. If your work involves shifts, please discuss this at your initial appointment or directly with your counsellor.
